Visual identity versus brand identity

Visual identity is the visible system — marks, type, colour, spacing and applications. Brand identity is larger: it includes positioning, personality and the rules for how the business should be perceived. A logo is not either of them on its own.

People ask for a visual identity when they mean the parts they can see. They ask for a brand identity when they mean the whole. House of ARA designs both, and does not sell one as a substitute for the other.

What visual identity holds

Primary and secondary marks, lockups, colour, typography, spacing, supporting graphic language, and the applications those parts have to survive on. It is a system, not a moodboard.

What brand identity adds

Discovery, positioning, personality, audience, the story the work has to carry, and guidelines so the identity can be used without constant art direction. Visual work without that foundation is decoration.

What neither is

A template. An AI generator. A font change. A fashion lookbook. House of ARA is a brand house for identity work — not a clothing label, and not a volume logo shop.
